President’s Message

Lads ‘n Lassies,

Welcome to the website and newsletter of the Saint Andrew’s Society of Williamsburg. Although most of you reading this letter are members of the society, to the rest of you I wish to take some time to tell you about our society.   Earlier this year the St. Andrews Society of Williamsburg celebrated the fortieth anniversary of its founding. Since 1968 the society may have grown in size, but more importantly, it has become recognized as the voice of the Scottish community in Virginia’s “Historic Triangle” one of the premier Scottish organization in the commonwealth of Virginia, and an organization well respected well beyond the borders of the state. The Society is thoroughly committed to the fundamental Scottish values of integrity, civic responsibility, benevolence, loyalty, and patriotism. We are dedicated to nourishing this Scottish identity through the celebration of both traditional and contemporary Scottish activities and commitment to charitable endeavors. We are recognized by the IRS and Commonwealth of Virginia as a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) tax status society.

We are delighted to sponsor and participate in a variety of Scottish events and activities each year. These include our gala Burns Nicht dinner, Tartan Day recognition, the St. Andrew’s Society Family Ceilidh and Picnic, our participation in the Williamsburg Scottish Festival and Celtic Celebration, spring and fall Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans, quarterly luncheons, and other activities. These activities allow the members and friends to gather together socially and promote and celebrate our Scottish heritage and culture.  I hope you will continue to browse through our website to learn a more about our organization and who we are. I particularly encourage you to take time to review our fine newsletter, “The Spectator,” and the galleries of photos from our recent events.

Being a member of the Society isn’t just about being of Scottish birth or descent, it is about embracing a way of life and a set of values that we endeavor to uphold every day. We welcome anyone who is Scottish by birth or descent. If you would like to know more about the society, please feel free to contact me at sas40@craigmiles.org. For your convenience, a copy of our membership application is available for download on this website.

In closing, welcome to the website of the St. Andrew’s Society of Williamsburg. I hope you’re your visit will be enjoyable and rewarding.

Yours aye,
