Williamsburg Scottish Festival

The annual Williamsburg Scottish Festival and Celtic Celebration was held this year at the Rockahock Campgrounds on Saturday October 4. It was a spectacular day with bright sunshine and cool breezes, just perfect for our gathering. The clans were all there, and it was a wonderful sight when the massed bands and the parade of clans assembled on the field with pipes blasting and drums rattling.

Clan Shaw was the honored clan for 2008 and the Honored guest was Archibald Angus Charles Kennedy, the Chief of Clan Kennedy. The program kept us all busy and entertained with the Welcoming Ceremony, the massed bands and Parade of Clans, a pipe band competition, plenty of Celtic rock from various groups, highland dancing, highland athletics with strong men hurling unlikely objects through the air, swordsmanship, sheep dogs and sheep, and plenty of Scottish handicrafts, attire, jewelry, weaponry etc. Scottish food and drink, including Scotch whiskey, was available in abundance.

Our own society had a tent set up for weary members to pause between events for a wee bit of Scotch and a sandwich or two. It was a day well spent! Following are some photos from the event.
